Reps Confirm Tinubu’s New Service Chiefs, Call for Renewed Security Effort

The House of Representatives on Thursday, October 30, approved the appointment of the newly nominated service chiefs following the submission of a screening report by an Ad-hoc Committee led by Babajimi Benson, who represents Ikorodu Federal Constituency.

The committee, made up of members from the Defence, Army, Navy, and Air Force Committees, had screened the four nominees on Wednesday,  Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, Major General Waidi Shaibu, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke, and Rear Admiral Idi Abbas, who were appointed by President Bola Tinubu as Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff, and Chief of Naval Staff, respectively.

Presenting the report to the House during plenary, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu oversaw the adoption of the committee’s recommendations confirming all four nominees.

The report noted that each of the officers had “successfully undergone the screening process” and was found fit to serve in their respective positions.

Following a unanimous voice vote, the House approved the appointments. Kalu congratulated the new service chiefs and urged them to demonstrate their competence and leadership in tackling the nation’s growing insecurity.

He charged them to “deploy their years of experience and expertise to secure Nigerians and their property day and night,” stressing that the country’s safety now rests heavily on their shoulders.
