Reps Move To Check Executive Control Of Official Travels

Nigeria’s House of Representatives is considering legislative measures to prevent what it describes as executive interference in its official travels, citing concerns over its constitutional independence.

The lawmakers raised the issue during Tuesday’s plenary session, where a motion drew attention to a circular they said challenged the autonomy of the legislature as a separate arm of government.

The House expressed concern that the circular could undermine its independence and ability to conduct official assignments without undue executive influence.

The lawmakers are seeking legislative options to address the matter and safeguard the constitutional status of the National Assembly.

Other issues of urgent public importance were also considered during the plenary.
