Rivers Police Query, Relieve Officers Over alleged Cultists’ Renovation Of Abuloma Outpost

The Rivers State Police Command has queried and relieved two senior officers of their duties following allegations that suspected cultists renovated the Abuloma Police Outpost and visited the facility to celebrate the completion of the project.

The affected officers are the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the divisional officer overseeing the outpost. They have been relieved of their duties pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident.

The development follows a trending social media report and video alleging that suspected cultists renovated the police facility and visited the premises on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the renovation.

In a press release issued on Friday, the Command said it strongly condemned any action or association capable of undermining the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju.

According to the Command, police facilities are public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law and must not be used by criminal groups to gain public recognition or influence.

The Commissioner of Police has consequently ordered a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the renovation and verify the allegations.

The investigation will determine the identities of the individuals or groups that financed or facilitated the project, the officers who authorised or approved it, whether due procedures were followed and whether any police personnel breached professional standards or compromised the integrity of the Force.

The Command, however, acknowledged that legitimate community support for the improvement of police facilities is permitted under Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.

It stressed that such contributions must not compromise police independence, security or professional standards.

The statement added that the investigation would establish whether the necessary approvals were obtained and appropriate checks conducted on those who financed or facilitated the renovation.

It warned that donations or assistance to the Police would not grant anyone immunity from investigation or prosecution.

Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on criminality and misconduct, the Command said it would not condone unprofessional behaviour or improper associations between police officers and criminal elements.

It added that appropriate disciplinary and legal action would be taken against anyone found culpable in line with the outcome of the investigation and existing laws.

The Command urged residents to remain calm and support security efforts by providing credible and timely information.
