The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has taken a crucial step in its preparations for the upcoming Local Government Council Elections, scheduled for August 9, 2025.
The commission has obtained the updated Register of Voters for Rivers State from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alongside the current list of registered political parties in Nigeria.
Pastor Taninotonye Tobins, RSIEC Commissioner for Media & Civic Education, confirmed the development in a statement, revealing that the documents were officially handed over to RSIEC on March 13, 2025, following a formal request to INEC.
“The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission is pleased to inform all stakeholders, political parties, and the well-meaning citizens of the state that, as part of ongoing preparations for the forthcoming Local Government Council Elections, the commission has secured from INEC Headquarters the updated Register of Voters for Rivers State together with the current list of registered political parties in Nigeria,” the statement read.

RSIEC further assured the public of its dedication to ensuring a credible, free, and fair election process.
In response to RSIEC’s request, INEC’s Administrative Secretary, Odor Napoleon Emezuruike, confirmed that the electoral body had provided a soft copy of the updated voter register and the list of recognized political parties to RSIEC.
As the election date approaches, political parties, candidates, and stakeholders will be looking to leverage the updated voter register in their preparations, while RSIEC continues its efforts to deliver a transparent and credible electoral process.
