Sallah Crackdown: Kano Hisbah Nabs 583 Over Hair, Dress Violations

The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested at least 583 young men and women for alleged immoral behavior during the recently concluded Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Deputy Commander-General Mujahid Aminuddeen disclosed the figures on Tuesday, noting that the board deployed 9,500 personnel across the state to monitor and curb such activities.

“During the Sallah, our personnel were able to arrest no fewer than 583 young men and women for committing various immoral acts. As you know, we deployed a total of 9,500 personnel across the state in order to check the excesses of such individuals, which yielded fruitful results,” he said.

Aminuddeen said 275 commercial tricycle operators were arrested for plaiting their hair or sporting hairstyles considered indecent under Islamic teachings, while 21 tricycle operators were detained for wearing three-quarter trousers.

In addition, 286 young women were apprehended for allegedly dressing indecently during the festivities. “These young women were caught in indecent dresses that exposed their bodies in the name of fashion,” he added.

The board also arrested 85 tricycle operators for transporting male and female passengers together in ways deemed inappropriate.
