Haruna Maiyasin Katsina, the revered Sarkin Sasa and Chairman of the Council of Arewa Traditional Rulers in Nigeria’s 17 southern states, has passed away at the age of 125.
He died on Saturday evening at his residence in the Sasa community, Ibadan, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.
A family member confirmed his passing on Sunday but stated that an official announcement would be made soon.
Senators representing Oyo Central and Oyo South, Yunus Akintunde and Sharafadeen Alli of the All Progressives Congress, have expressed their condolences, mourning the loss of the esteemed traditional leader.
Akintunde described the late monarch as a champion of good governance and democracy, praising his humility and dedication to humanitarian service.

“Well-loved and highly respected, the Sarkin Sasa was both a political and spiritual leader, whose wisdom and guidance will be greatly missed,” Akintunde said.
Similarly, Senator Alli highlighted the late ruler’s role as a beacon of leadership and community development, emphasizing his peaceful nature and invaluable contributions to nation-building.
The lawmakers extended their sympathies to his family, the Arewa community, and the people of Sasa, praying for his soul’s eternal rest.
