The Nigerian Senate has suspended its plenary sessions and will reconvene on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, following a resolution passed during Thursday’s proceedings.
The motion for adjournment was introduced by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and received unanimous backing from the chamber.
In a brief address before the gavel came down, Senate President Godswill Akpabio called on senators to utilize the recess period for “intensive oversight functions” across ministries, departments, and agencies.
Each committee, he emphasized, will be required to submit a comprehensive report detailing its oversight activities when sessions resume.

In addition to legislative duties, APC lawmakers are expected to attend the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party, scheduled to commence at 2:00 PM at the Presidential Villa.
This development comes amid a flurry of legislative actions in recent days, including the Senate’s approval of a ₦105 billion budget for the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), a $21 billion foreign loan request by President Tinubu, and deliberations on local content compliance across sectors.
The recess marks a brief but significant pause in legislative business, with many eyes now turning to the quality of oversight reports and political engagements that will unfold in the coming weeks.
