Senate Leader Denies Alleged Attempt to Remove Akpabio

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Leader, has rejected claims suggesting that colleagues in the National Assembly were plotting to remo8ve Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

He described the reports as misleading and aimed at creating unnecessary tension within the Senate.

Speaking during Wednesday, November 12 plenary, Bamidele stressed that no discussions or plans had been made regarding the removal of the Senate President.

“There has been no attempt by any senator, nor any conversation about removing the Senate President from office,” he said.

He emphasised that the Senate remains united and is focused on urgent national issues rather than being sidetracked by false narratives.

“We are committed to staying focused and have zero tolerance for distractions. There are pressing matters that require our attention, and reports like these are clearly intended to sow confusion,” Bamidele added.

The clarification followed remarks by Senator Orji Ozor Kalu of Abia North, who had alluded to past unsuccessful efforts to impeach the Senate President.

Bamidele reaffirmed that there is no intention among senators to consider removing any leadership members, highlighting the chamber’s cohesion and dedication to governance.
