Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, a renowned legal scholar, distinguished lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has died at the age of 92.
Kasunmu reportedly passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, August 9, 2026.
His death was announced by the Baptist Academy Old Students Association through its Global President, Olumide Ajomale, in a statement issued on behalf of the association’s National Executive Council.
A member of the Baptist Academy Class of 1953 and a trustee of the school’s old students association, Kasunmu was described as a prominent figure whose contributions to law, education and national development spanned several decades.
Ajomale described the deceased as “a towering figure in law, scholarship, and national development,” while highlighting his impact as a mentor, scholar and advocate.
The association said Kasunmu represented the core values of Baptist Academy, particularly integrity, discipline and service, while also serving as a respected patriarch within his family.
“ With gratitude to God for a life well spent in service to God and humanity, we announce the passing of our distinguished alumnus, Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, SAN, who departed peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, 9th August 2026 at the age of 92,” the statement said.

Kasunmu’s contributions to the Baptist Academy community were also recognised during the association’s 170th Founders Day celebration last year, when he received the BAOSA Order of Excellence Award alongside 169 other distinguished alumni.
The association said his death marked the loss of a man whose life was defined by wisdom, mentorship and a commitment to excellence.
It added that his influence would continue to inspire generations of former students of Baptist Academy and Nigerians who benefited from his work in the legal and academic fields.
BAOSA expressed its condolences to his family and called on members of the association around the world to remember them in their prayers.
The association said details of his funeral arrangements would be announced later.
