Posters promoting “Seyi Makinde for President” were spotted at the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party’s national convention, triggering a wave of speculation about the Oyo State governor’s political future.
Photos and videos shared online on Friday, November 14, showed the campaign-style materials displayed around key entry points, even though Makinde has not formally declared interest in the 2027 presidential race.
Makinde has previously hinted at the possibility of contesting for the nation’s top job.
In an April interview, he said, “I don’t have any doubt that I have the capacity to occupy the highest office in this land and I have what it takes.”
The Oyo State governor added that the PDP must be stabilised before such ambitions become official, noting, “You must have a platform for you to even aspire to be anything.”

He has also maintained that decisions about 2027 will come from him alone, saying, “Nobody can push my agenda… I will push my agenda when the time comes.”
The appearance of the posters comes at a difficult moment for the PDP, which has been grappling with internal fractures, high-profile defections and weakening influence across states.
Several governors and top leaders of the party, as well as its perennial presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar have deducted to other political parties ahead of 2027 elections.
With the PDP losing key figures and battling public doubts about its cohesion, analysts say the posters may reflect a push by factions seeking a fresh face to rebuild the party’s national appeal.
Whether coordinated or spontaneous, the pro-Makinde materials have intensified conversation about a possible generational shift within the opposition as it struggles to redefine its direction before the next general elections.
