Shehu Criticises Nigerians Over Voting Based On Emotion

Public commentator Mahdi Shehu has criticised Nigerian voters, saying many base their political decisions on present emotions rather than past experiences.

Shehu made the remark on Sunday, the 29th of March, 2026, in a post on X while reacting to an old video of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu discussing governance and accountability.

In the video, Tinubu reportedly said Nigerians should not vote for him for a second term if he fails to deliver steady electricity within four years in office.

Reacting, Shehu said many Nigerians often overlook past events when making electoral decisions.

“Some Nigerians will still go ahead to vote for him because most Nigerians are prisoners of ‘the moment’ and never prisoners of history, even if they will be prisoners tomorrow,” he wrote.
