Shehu Sani Commends Sowore’s Activism, Challenges South-East Politicians to Embrace ‘Aluta Spirit’

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has lauded activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, for his consistency in civic activism and fearless pursuit of justice.

In a post shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, Sani described Sowore as a man accustomed to the rigours of protest and civic struggle, noting his regular confrontations with state authorities.

“Comrade Sowore is used to organising his protests, going to the cells, brutalised alone and going to the courts on a regular basis,” Sani wrote.

The former lawmaker made the statement in response to Sowore’s plan to stage a protest in front of Aso Rock Villa demanding the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Sani further challenged politicians from the South-East to emulate Sowore’s courage and commitment to activism, urging them to embody the “Spirit of Aluta Continua”—a term long associated with resilience and the struggle for justice.

Sani’s remarks come amid renewed calls for the Federal Government to release Kanu, who has been in detention since 2021 following his re-arrest and extradition to Nigeria.

As of press time, Sowore has yet to disclose the exact date of the planned protest, though his announcement has sparked widespread debate on social media about civic engagement, political courage, and human rights in Nigeria.
