Former presidential aide and socio-political commentator, Reno Omokri, has criticised Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of promoting what he described as a “false narrative” of a Christian genocide in Northern Nigeria.
Omokri made the comments on Wednesday in a post shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, where he faulted Obi’s recent condemnation of killings in the North, alleging selective outrage over violent incidents across the country.
In his post, Omokri questioned why Obi had not similarly condemned killings attributed to criminal elements and separatist groups in the South-East, citing several past incidents involving both civilian and military casualties.
He referenced the May 22, 2022, murder of Harira Jubril, a pregnant woman, and her four young daughters—Fatima, Khadijah, Hadiza, and Zaituna—reportedly killed by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Omokri also mentioned the May 8, 2025, killing of about 30 commuters, including Muslims, along the Okigwe-Owerri Road, and the May 31, 2025, attack in Aba, Abia State, where five soldiers and six civilians were gunned down by suspected assailants.
He questioned Obi’s silence on such incidents, stating that it was inconsistent to speak out against killings in one region while ignoring others. “We cannot expect anything less from a man who promised a ‘religious war’ absent the Muslim Ummah,” Omokri added.
Omokri’s comments have since drawn varied reactions on social media, with some users defending his stance as a call for balance, while others accused him of politicising sensitive national issues.
Neither Peter Obi nor his media team has responded to Omokri’s statements as of the time of filing this report.
