Nigerian singer and songwriter, Chike, has stirred conversation with his unconventional views on marriage and happiness, declaring that he has no interest in getting married.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the 32-year-old artist described marriage as “a stupid step,” insisting that the institution is not a priority in his life.
“In my personal opinion, I think it’s a stupid step to get married, that’s my opinion,” Chike stated.
Known for his soulful love songs, the “Running” crooner explained that his happiness is closely tied to financial security rather than relationships.
“For me to be happy, to be honest, I need a lot of money. This is not even canal, I won’t lie to you, I like money. I want money,” he said.
Reflecting on his career journey, Chike revealed that he only realized music would become his profession after completing university.

“Right after my university, I knew music is what I’ll do for a living. I won’t say I knew before, because I just used to sing and disturb everybody around me,” he admitted.
The singer, who rose to fame after finishing as runner-up in The Voice Nigeria (2016) following his debut on Project Fame (2015), has often sparked debate with his candid opinions on love. In 2022, he disclosed that he had never said “I love you,” explaining that the phrase makes him feel vulnerable.
“I get that feeling that if I say it, my bolz would shrink and disappear. Happy I get to sing it though,” he joked.
Beyond his music career, Chike has ventured into acting, featuring in productions such as Gangs of Lagos.
