The Anambra State government has refuted claims that Governor Chukwuma Soludo intends to arrest Catholic bishops, priests, and native doctors if re-elected.
In a statement released on Tuesday, October 21, the Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, described the allegations spreading on social media as “false, baseless, and malicious.”
He said, “The attention of the Anambra State Government has been drawn to a fabricated story alleging that Governor Soludo plans to arrest Catholic bishops and priests after his re-election.
“We categorically state this report is false, baseless, and malicious. It is a clear example of misinformation intended to create tension and disrupt peace.”
According to Mefor, the false reports were the handiwork of “shadow opposition relying on propaganda due to weak campaigns.”
He said the Soludo administration remains committed to upholding the rights and freedoms of all citizens, including religious leaders.

“The Anambra Government assures the public, particularly the Catholic Church, of Soludo’s commitment to their rights and freedoms,” Mefor added.
“We urge Ndị Anambra to reject this false report and always require credible evidence before sharing such inflammatory stories.”
He further clarified that the government’s ongoing campaign is against fake native doctors, fraudulent clergymen, and fake traditional figures, which led to the ‘Oso Soludo’ initiative.
“Furthermore, the government will collaborate with the Federal Government to eliminate certificate forgers,” the statement concluded.
Governor Soludo is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the November 8, 2025, governorship election, where he will face about 16 other candidates.
