Sowore Welcomes Ejimakor’s Release, Reaffirms Call for Kanu’s Freedom

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has welcomed the release of Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, one of the legal representatives of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, describing him as a resilient advocate for justice.

Ejimakor was reportedly freed from Kuje Correctional Centre days after his arrest on October 20, 2025, during a demonstration in Abuja demanding Kanu’s release. His detention, along with other activists, had drawn criticism from rights groups and civil society organisations.

Reacting to his release in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Sowore wrote:

“Welcome back from Kuje Prison, Barrister @AloyEjimakor. It was an honour to share those prison walls with you and other courageous comrades committed to ending Nigeria’s modern-day apartheid in the South-East.”

He praised Ejimakor’s resilience and commitment, reaffirming his support for renewed efforts toward securing Kanu’s freedom.

“There will be no stopping until Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is freed from his unjust and illegal detention,” Sowore stated.

Ejimakor, a member of Kanu’s legal team, has been a prominent voice in the campaign against what he describes as rights violations and political repression in the South-East.

His release comes amid ongoing calls from human rights advocates urging the Federal Government to comply with previous court rulings ordering Kanu’s unconditional release and to address concerns surrounding the treatment of political detainees in Nigeria.
