Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Segun Sowunmi, has hailed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as “a fantastic vision” and “a totally wowing” project that signals renewed ambition and progress for Nigeria.
In an interview on Arise Television on Monday, the 6th of October, 2025, Sowunmi urged Nigerians to rise above “hate and anger,” stressing that such emotions should not overshadow the strides made on the coastal highway.
He described the initiative as an ambitious and durable national effort, clarifying that his remarks were not rooted in political loyalty but in recognition of a major developmental drive.
“The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, by every stretch of imagination, is a fantastic vision. And I think they will deliver it on time.
Let me put some context to it, because sometimes in this country, people can easily tar everybody with one brush. I have by no means joined his government, and I’m not speaking for him,” he said.

Sowunmi also called for a collective approach to nation-building, urging Nigerians to focus on shared progress rather than party divisions.
Addressing issues linked to compensation, project costs, and environmental concerns, he noted that his visit to the project site showed minimal signs of unfair displacement.
He appealed to citizens to move past corruption narratives and rally behind genuine development efforts driven by public interest.
