SUBEB Confirms January 5 School Resumption in Sokoto

Despite security challenges affecting some areas, public primary and junior secondary schools in Sokoto State are set to reopen for the second term on Monday, the 5th of January , 2026.

The Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) disclosed that the first-term vacation will officially conclude on Sunday, the 4th of January, 2026, paving the way for the resumption of all schools under its authority the following day.

In an official release signed by SUBEB’s Executive Chairman, Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, the board assured that necessary measures have been taken to guarantee a hitch-free and well-coordinated return to school activities.

Tambuwal called on parents, guardians, traditional rulers, religious leaders, School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to work collectively to ensure that pupils resume promptly.

He further instructed education secretaries and school support officers across the state to begin rigorous monitoring and oversight of schools, stressing the need for adherence to the resumption schedule and the maintenance of quality academic delivery.

According to the SUBEB chairman, three dedicated monitoring and supervision teams each headed by a permanent board member will be dispatched across the state’s three senatorial districts to evaluate readiness and attendance levels.

Tambuwal also cautioned contractors engaged in classroom construction, fencing, borehole installations, and furniture provision to hasten project completion in line with their contractual obligations.

The board reiterated its resolve to continue providing uninterrupted access to basic education and to protect the educational prospects of children in Sokoto State despite prevailing security concerns.
