Super Eagles shot-stopper, Stanley Nwabali, has been nominated for the 2025 CAF Goalkeeper of the Year award.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the shortlist on Wednesday, featuring some of the continent’s finest goalkeepers who have made outstanding contributions for both club and country over the past year.
Nwabali earned the nomination following his impressive performances for Nigeria at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, where he played a key role in guiding the Super Eagles to the final.
The Chippa United goalkeeper was widely praised for his composure, penalty-saving heroics, and leadership between the sticks during the tournament — particularly in the semi-final victory over South Africa.
His exploits in the South African Premier Soccer League have also drawn attention, with Nwabali maintaining consistent form for Chippa United throughout the season.

The 27-year-old will compete for the top individual honour against other African goalkeeping stars, including Morocco’s Yassine Bounou, Egypt’s Mohamed El-Shenawy, and Cameroon’s André Onana.
If he wins, Nwabali would become the first Nigerian goalkeeper to clinch the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year award — a feat that would further cement his status as one of Africa’s finest in recent years.
CAF is expected to announce the winners of all award categories at the CAF Awards Gala scheduled to hold later this year.
