The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has announced that veteran maritime administrator, Sylvester Othuke Egede, will be honoured with the Lifetime Award in Global Trade Facilitation at its forthcoming Annual General Meeting and Conference.
The event, scheduled to hold on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, will recognise Egede’s exceptional contributions to Nigeria’s maritime growth and his pivotal role in advancing global trade facilitation.
With a career spanning over three decades, Egede has held several strategic positions at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), including Assistant General Manager in the Managing Director’s Division, Port Manager at Tin Can Island Port Complex, Traffic Manager at Rivers Port, and Personal Assistant (Operations) to the Executive Director, Marine and Operations.
His tenure is particularly remembered for his effective leadership in resolving persistent traffic gridlocks along Lagos port access roads, a feat that has enhanced port operations, boosted exports, and improved Nigeria’s trade surplus in 2024.
