Taraba Gov May Dump PDP for APC, Says Political Adviser

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State may soon join the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to his Special Adviser on Political Matters and Special Duties, Josiah Kente.

Kente confirmed the governor’s likely defection in a statement issued in Jalingo on Tuesday, October 28, describing the move as a strategic step to secure greater federal support for Taraba’s development.

He said the decision was not driven by political ambition but by the “collective interest of Tarabans,” adding that Kefas’ performance in education, healthcare, and infrastructure deserved stronger backing from the ruling party at the national level.

“This call is anchored not on partisan interest but on the collective aspiration of the people of Taraba for sustainable progress, infrastructural transformation, and inclusion in national affairs,” Kente stated.

He explained that aligning with the APC would enable Taraba to attract more federal projects, boost security collaboration, and benefit from donor-funded initiatives.

“With the Governor’s alignment to the ruling party, Taraba stands to benefit from increased federal presence such as roads, bridges, hospitals, and power installations which are currently concentrated in states with stronger federal ties,” he added.

The adviser praised Kefas’ leadership and described his Moving Forward agenda as visionary, saying the governor’s impact could be multiplied through cooperation with the Federal Government.

“It is only fitting that such visionary leadership is supported by the enabling political environment at the national level.

“The times call for bold, strategic decisions that transcend party sentiment in favour of the people’s welfare,” Kente said.

He called on political stakeholders, youth groups, and community leaders to support what he described as a “realignment for growth and prosperity.”

Governor Kefas, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2023, would become the first Taraba governor to defect to the APC since 1999, ending the PDP’s 26-year control of the state.
