Terror Strikes Again: Bandits Raid Marere Village in Zamfara, Abduct Locals

In yet another grim reminder of the persistent insecurity plaguing parts of northwestern Nigeria, armed bandits descended on Marere Hausawa, a village in the Damba district of Gusau Local Government Area, Zamfara State, on Thursday afternoon.

The attackers, heavily armed and moving swiftly, stormed the village around 3 p.m., moving from house to house as they seized residents and marched them away into the forest.

The total number of those abducted remains unclear, but local sources suggest multiple families were affected.

Many of the villagers who managed to escape fled into the surrounding bush, while others made their way to Gusau, seeking refuge in the urban area.

Marere and the neighboring village of Samba have long been vulnerable to such attacks, and despite repeated warnings and calls for assistance, the response from security agencies has remained inadequate.

Residents have voiced frustration over the lack of action from authorities, pointing out that these areas are known hotspots for bandit activity.

The attack is the latest in a string of violent incidents that continue to challenge efforts to restore peace in Zamfara, a state increasingly gripped by lawlessness and impunity.

Efforts to obtain comment from the Zamfara State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of publication, with calls to spokesperson ASP Yazeed Abubakar going unanswered.
