Tinubu Appoints Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu As Foreign Affairs Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who reportedly stepped down to pursue participation in the 2027 elections.

According to a State House press statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to Senate confirmation.

Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu previously served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before her latest elevation to head the ministry.

Ambassador Enikanolaiye, who hails from Kogi State, currently serves as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations. He is described as a seasoned diplomat with over 30 years of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service.

Over the course of his career, Enikanolaiye has served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held diplomatic postings in several international cities, including Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.

The Presidency stated that the appointments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy direction, improve diplomatic efficiency, and deepen international partnerships.

President Tinubu congratulated the appointees and urged them to advance Nigeria’s national interests, promote economic diplomacy, support regional stability, and ensure the welfare of Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.
