President Bola Tinubu has blamed opposition parties for Nigeria’s hunger and poverty, insisting that his administration is working to address the hardship as he seeks re-election in 2027.
Tinubu spoke on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna, urging voters to renew his mandate in the January 16, 2027, presidential election.
Thanking Kaduna residents for supporting his 2023 victory, he promised that a second term would deliver prosperity, continuity and national development.
“My opponents are talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did!” Tinubu said, accusing his rivals of exploiting economic hardship for political gain.
The president defended petrol subsidy removal, a major reform introduced after he assumed office in May 2023, declaring that the policy was firmly behind the country. He also pledged to tackle corruption, fraudulent invoicing and fuel smuggling.

Tinubu praised APC governors for their developmental efforts and regular salary payments, arguing that continued APC leadership would sustain economic reforms and create opportunities for growth.
Urging supporters to display their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), he called for a massive turnout to secure his re-election.
“Come January 16, 2027, you must go out massively to re-elect me. APC all the way!” he declared.
He also urged voters to elect APC candidates into governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and state assembly seats, while challenging opposition parties to present credible alternatives.
The president’s appeal comes amid continuing public debate over the cost-of-living pressures associated with subsidy removal and other economic reforms. While his administration maintains that the measures are necessary, their impact on household spending remains a key political issue.
Tinubu also honoured Nigeria’s departed leaders, reflecting on the historical significance of the Kaduna venue and praying for their eternal peace.
