Ulasi: Opposition Failing To Exploit Tinubu’s Economic Failures

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has accused opposition parties of failing to take advantage of the economic difficulties under President Bola Tinubu’s administration to strengthen their chances in the 2027 general election.

Ulasi said rising inflation, high food prices and other shortcomings of the government offered opposition parties opportunities to win public support but questioned their ability to turn widespread dissatisfaction into electoral gains.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Friday, October 16, Ulasi said the opposition had not done enough to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he described as better organised.

Asked about the opposition’s preparedness for the next general election, he said, “Yeah, the statement you made is not a fallacy of generalization, It’s factual. There’s only one opposition party that is running this election now. It’s Peter Obi and the NDC.”

The PDP chieftain acknowledged that the economic challenges facing Nigerians could undermine support for the ruling party, arguing that the opposition had several issues it could use to question the government’s performance.

“Whether he has the support of majority of Nigerians, I think he does. Apparently because of the serious shortcomings this government has, you know, inflation, food prices. There are a lot of things to exploit,” he said.

However, Ulasi expressed disappointment that opposition parties had not effectively used these concerns to build a stronger political challenge.

“Well, I don’t think they are effectively doing it, and I’m honest to myself,” he said.

Ulasi’s comments come as political parties prepare for the 2027 elections.

He also warned that opposition parties were more divided than they were in 2023, raising concerns about their ability to mount a united challenge to Tinubu’s re-election bid.
