President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday hosted an Iftar dinner at the State House, Abuja, welcoming state governors, ministers, and key security and government agency heads to the first such gathering of the Ramadan season.
Among the notable attendees were Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. Their presence came amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, where a recent Supreme Court ruling favored the faction led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, a Wike ally.
The ruling reinstated 27 pro-Wike lawmakers who had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led Assembly, posing a direct challenge to Governor Fubara’s authority. In response, Fubara has invited the legislators for a meeting to discuss the court’s decision.
The event was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and several cabinet members.
