President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the death of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the loss as a great tragedy for the nation.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the passing of his predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari.
“President Buhari died today in London at about 4:30 pm, following a prolonged illness.”
President Tinubu, according to the statement, has spoken with the late president’s widow, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

In a move to honour the former leader, Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to immediately travel to the United Kingdom to accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria.
“President Tinubu has also ordered Vice President Kashim Shettima to proceed to the United Kingdom to accompany President Muhammadu Buhari’s body back to Nigeria,” Onanuga stated.
As a national tribute, the President has also ordered all flags to be flown at half-staff across the country in honour of the departed former president.
