Tinubu Moves to Strengthen CBN Leadership, Nominates Melvin Ayogu

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Melvin Ayogu to the board of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and has formally requested Senate confirmation for the appointment.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Alongside Ayogu, Tinubu has also submitted a request for the Senate to confirm Nwakuche Ndidi as the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

These requests were conveyed in official letters addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during Tuesday’s plenary session.

This follows Tinubu’s previous nominations to the CBN board in February 2024, which included Robert Agbide, Ado Wanga, Murtala Sagaley, Urom Eke, and Olayinka Aliyu.

However, after Eke declined the role due to a “conflict of interest,” the President replaced him with Ruby Onwudiwe on March 13, 2024.

Onwudiwe’s nomination was later withdrawn, reportedly due to her political ties with the opposition Labour Party.

The Senate is expected to deliberate on Tinubu’s latest nominations in the coming days.
