President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mourned the passing of Major General Abdullahi Mohammed Adangba (rtd.), a former Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, describing him as one of Nigeria’s finest military administrators and statesmen.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the late General, who died at 86, made historic contributions to Nigeria’s national security and governance.
Tinubu noted that General Mohammed played a pioneering role in building the country’s modern intelligence framework through his involvement in the creation of the National Security Organisation (NSO), the foundation from which the State Security Service (SSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) later emerged.
Before his federal appointments, he served as Military Governor of the defunct Benue-Plateau State from 1975 to 1976, earning a reputation for discipline, order, and administrative reform.

The President extended condolences to General Mohammed’s family, the government and people of Kwara State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all who mourn him, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
