President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the death of veteran journalist and co-founder of Newswatch magazine, Dan Agbese, who passed away on Monday in Lagos at the age of 81.

In a statement on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Agbese’s passing as “painful” and a major loss to Nigeria’s media industry.

According to the statement, Tinubu highlighted Agbese’s pivotal role in shaping modern journalism in Nigeria, noting that his contributions will be remembered forever. Agbese and his colleagues at Newswatch are credited with introducing a new era of investigative and interpretative reporting that elevated professional standards and strengthened public accountability.
