President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed that four attack helicopters purchased from the United States are set to arrive in Nigeria soon, reinforcing the federal government’s intensified campaign against rising insecurity across the country.
Speaking on Friday, December 26, 2025, during a meeting with Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) leaders in Abuja, Tinubu said the helicopters would take some time to reach Nigeria.
The president said the aircraft will enhance the Nigerian Armed Forces’ capacity for aerial surveillance, rapid response, and close air support for troops tackling terrorism, banditry, kidnappings, and other violent crimes.
Acknowledging the complexities of military procurement, Tinubu noted that sophisticated equipment like attack helicopters is costly and not immediately available off the shelf.

He also highlighted ongoing collaboration with Turkey to further strengthen the country’s security apparatus.
The announcement is part of a broader government strategy to modernize Nigeria’s defence capabilities, including prior military acquisitions, increased funding for security agencies, and partnerships with international allies.
Nigeria continues to face major security challenges in the North East, North West, and Middle Belt, making enhanced defence resources critical to protecting lives and restoring stability nationwide.
