Tinubu Swears in New NPC Officials

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, administered the oath of office to the newly appointed Chairman and Commissioners of the National Population Commission, alongside five new Federal Permanent Secretaries, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Dr. Aminu Yusuf, appointed NPC Chairman on October 9, 2025, was sworn in with two new commissioners, including Dr. Tonga Betara from Yobe State.

The Permanent Secretaries sworn in were Abdulkarim Ibrahim, Dr. John Ezeamama, Dr. Abdul-Sule Garba, Dr. Isiaku Mohammed, and Dr. Ukaire Chigbowu.

The National Population Commission is tasked with collecting and managing Nigeria’s demographic data, which guides national planning, policy decisions, and the allocation of resources across states and local governments.

Its work is critical for health, education, infrastructure, and electoral planning.

Following the oath-taking, the Federal Executive Council observed a minute of silence in honour of late former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Joy Ogwu, before beginning its session, the eighth for the year.

The meeting focused on policy initiatives, budget implementation updates, and ongoing government reforms across key sectors.

President Tinubu stressed the importance of efficient public service delivery and accurate data collection, urging the new NPC leadership and Permanent Secretaries to uphold transparency, accountability, and high performance in their roles.
