The University of Ilorin has announced that former Lagos State Governor and immediate past Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, will deliver the institution’s 40th Convocation Lecture, while President Bola Tinubu is expected to commission newly completed projects on campus as part of the week-long celebrations.
According to a statement signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla, on Thursday, the convocation programme will run from Friday, October 17, to Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Fashola’s lecture, titled “The Gen-Z Playbook: Navigating Work and the Real World,” is scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in the University Auditorium.
Alfanla stated that President Tinubu will commission several new projects on the university campus as part of the convocation week, describing the event as a celebration of the institution’s “continued growth and academic excellence.”
The activities will kick off on Friday, October 17, with a Special Juma’at Service at the University Central Mosque, followed by an Interdenominational Church Service on Sunday, October 19, at the Chapel of the Light.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, will address a World Press Conference on Monday, October 20, to highlight institutional achievements and outline the programme of events.
The Convocation Play, “Joromi,” will be staged on Tuesday, October 21, at the Performing and Film Arts Theatre, followed by the first convocation session for four-year programmes and diploma graduands immediately after Fashola’s lecture on Wednesday.
The second convocation session, for five- and six-year programmes and postgraduate graduands, will hold on Thursday, October 23, followed by the investiture of Emeritus Professors.
President Tinubu is scheduled to commission several completed projects the same day at 1:30 p.m., after which the Staff Merit Awards and Convocation Luncheon will take place at 4:00 p.m.

The week-long ceremony will conclude with another Juma’at Service on Friday, October 24, and a Thanksgiving Service at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy on Sunday, October 26.
The Registrar assured that adequate logistics and security arrangements had been put in place to ensure a smooth and successful celebration.
He congratulated the graduands and their families, noting that the convocation would reaffirm UNILORIN’s legacy as one of Nigeria’s foremost centres of academic excellence.
The 40th Convocation Ceremony is expected to attract dignitaries from across the country, including top government officials, academics, and members of the alumni community.
