Tinubu To Present 2027 Budget Before December — Minister

President Bola Tinubu is expected to submit the 2027 federal budget to the National Assembly before the end of December, as the Federal Government advances preparations for the next fiscal year.

The Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka, disclosed this on Wednesday, October 28, ryys6uytgywhile addressing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Asked about the timeline for presenting the spending proposal, the minister said the government was working towards submitting it before the end of the year.

“We are working on the budget for 2027, and the intention is to present it before the end of the year,” she said.

Preparations for the budget have included new measures aimed at tightening scrutiny of personnel expenditure across ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

In a circular issued on September 4, 2026, the Budget Office of the Federation directed all MDAs to submit their proposed personnel costs for 2027 alongside their establishment Acts.

The circular, signed by the Director-General of the Budget Office, Tanimu Yakubu, made the submission of the documents mandatory for agencies seeking personnel cost allocations in the forthcoming budget.

The requirement followed the controversy surrounding the discovery of fictitious government agencies by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The directive also stipulates that agencies not captured on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) or the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) will be excluded from personnel cost provisions in the 2027 budget.

The measures are intended to strengthen checks on government payroll spending and ensure that personnel allocations are made only to recognised agencies that meet the prescribed requirements.

Tinubu’s planned budget presentation will precede legislative scrutiny of the proposed revenue and expenditure framework for 2027.

The National Assembly will consider the proposal as part of its constitutional responsibility for approving the federal budget.
