Media personality and reality TV star Anita ‘Tacha’ Akide has signaled her intention to enter Nigerian politics, expressing frustration with the current state of governance, particularly in her home state of Rivers.
Speaking during an interview on Rubbin’ Minds on Channels Television, Tacha stated that she is no longer content to observe and criticize from the sidelines, hinting that she is preparing for active political involvement.
“Definitely, when it’s time, I would [run for office],” she said.
“I’m not sure about the next elections. But if it’s something I’m working on, I’d need to make it at least 70% already done before I can talk about it.”
The former Big Brother Naija housemate emphasized that political engagement is not limited to elected positions, noting that “we play politics every day,” whether in personal decisions, social relationships, or public commentary.
When pressed on the exact role or office she might pursue, Tacha remained noncommittal.
“I don’t even know, but you guys watch out, definitely,” she said.
Tacha, who hails from Rivers State, was particularly critical of the region’s political direction, describing it as disappointing compared to other Nigerian cities like Lagos and Abuja.
She referenced the ongoing power struggle between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, a feud that has disrupted governance and development efforts in the state.

“It’s kind of been disappointing,” she said.
“When I look at other cities like Lagos and Abuja and see how far they’ve come and the potential that Rivers State has, it’s sad that they’re not trying to exploit that. Instead, it’s just church and politics.”
Tacha also lamented the neglect of the state’s youth population and its untapped creative and economic potential.
“There are so many youths, so much talent. If the government can see light into that, there’s so much that can happen. But they’re not trying to exploit that, and it’s just disappointing.”
Her comments have sparked online conversations, with supporters praising her boldness and political consciousness.
Some critics, however, have questioned the feasibility of celebrity transitions into governance.
As Nigeria approaches another election cycle, Tacha’s remarks may mark the beginning of a growing trend of public figures seeking formal political power.
