Nigerian onion exporters have suspended shipments to Ghana following a trade dispute disrupting cross-border supply. The decision was announced on Sunday, April 5, 2026, by the National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria.
The association said the move was prompted by alleged harassment of its members in Ghana, including restrictions on offloading goods and interference with distribution activities in Accra.
NOPPMAN President, Isa Aliyu, said exports will remain suspended until Nigerian traders are assured of safety and fair access to Ghanaian markets.

The development has heightened tensions along the trade corridor, with reports of delays affecting Ghana-bound trucks carrying perishable goods in northern Nigeria, though aspects of these claims remain disputed.
The dispute stems from longstanding disagreements between trader groups over market access and distribution control.
Analysts warn the standoff could disrupt supply, as Ghana depends heavily on onion imports from Nigeria and neighboring countries.
There are growing calls for diplomatic intervention to resolve the impasse and restore normal trade flows, amid concerns over potential pressure on food supply and prices in the region.
