Troops of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army have arrested two suspected terrorists and recovered firearms, ammunition, communication equipment and other items during a night fighting patrol in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of August 25, 2026, by troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team 2 operating from Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kaura Namoda, is part of sustained military efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and deny criminal elements freedom of action across the area.
This was contained in a statement by the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Capt. Yusuf Mohammed, on Monday.
According to the statement, the troops encountered and apprehended two suspected terrorists at about 1:50 a.m. during the patrol.
The suspects were identified as 25-year-old Jabiru Hassan and 23-year-old Umaru Bello, both reportedly from Ilela Village in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
A search conducted following their arrest led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated Dane gun, two rifle magazines and 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
The troops also recovered 18 cartridges for the Dane gun, one motorcycle, two Baofeng radio sets and a mobile phone.
Other items recovered from the suspects included two MP3 players, one camouflage vest, two jungle hats, one handbag and N44,500 in cash.
According to the Army, a preliminary examination of the suspects’ mobile phone revealed photographs and video materials considered potentially incriminating and of intelligence value.
The materials are currently being subjected to further analysis and exploitation by the appropriate authorities to determine their relevance and establish any possible links between the suspects and terrorist activities in the area.
The Army said the arrests and recovery of weapons and communication equipment represented another setback for criminal elements operating in the Kaura Namoda axis.
It added that the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of sustained fighting patrols, intelligence-led operations and military presence in vulnerable communities.

The Acting Commander, 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Colonel J. Umaru, commended the troops for their vigilance, courage and professionalism during the operation.
He charged personnel to maintain the tempo of offensive operations and remain resolute in denying terrorists and other criminal elements the opportunity to operate within the Brigade’s area of responsibility.
Colonel Umaru also reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to protecting lives and property while supporting efforts to restore lasting peace and security across Zamfara State.
The suspects remain in custody ase investigations continue, while troops are expected to sustain follow-up operations aimed at identifying other members and collaborators of the suspected terrorist network.
The Nigerian Army continues to urge residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations against terrorism and other forms of criminality across the North-West.
