Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have foiled an ambush by suspected bandits during a follow-up operation in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, recovering an AK-47 rifle and ammunition.
The operation followed the arrest and interrogation of a suspected bandit, whose information led troops to Nwur Village to recover a weapon reportedly hidden by members of the criminal syndicate.
According to the military in a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook page on Tuesday, while approaching the suspected hideout, the troops came under attack from other members of the group.
The troops responded with superior firepower, neutralising one of the attackers during the ensuing gun battle.
The arrested suspect also died in the exchange.

Following the encounter, troops conducted an exploitation of the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and two rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition reportedly abandoned by the fleeing criminals.
The military said troops have continued clearance and exploitation operations within the area in an effort to track down other members of the suspected bandit syndicate.
Operation Enduring Peace reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations against criminal elements and denying them freedom of action across Plateau State.
The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property and maintain peace across the state.
