Troops escorting Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum’s convoy repelled a Boko Haram attack along the Buni Gari-Buni Yadi road on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the troops engaged the insurgents in a gun battle, killing an unspecified number of them and rescuing seven kidnapped travellers.

The report, citing intelligence sources, stated that the convoy included soldiers from Operation Hadin Kai, a Police Crack Team, and top government officials.

The team was returning from Biu Local Government Area when they encountered terrorists attempting to abduct passengers from a Volkswagen car. The troops opened fire, forcing the attackers to flee and abandon their captives.

Governor Zulum was not in the convoy during the incident, as he had travelled by helicopter earlier.

All personnel in the convoy emerged unscathed, while the troops recovered weapons and motorcycles from the attackers.
