Troops of the Nigerian Army, working alongside other security agencies, have killed eight suspected terrorists and recovered two AK-47 rifles and five motorcycles during a coordinated operation in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The operation was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade Nigerian Army, Capt. Abayomi Adisa.
According to Adisa, the operation was launched after security forces received credible intelligence that suspected terrorists loyal to notorious bandit leader Idi Abasu Aiki were planning to block the Kakumi–Guga Road and attack motorists.
Acting on the intelligence, troops laid an ambush along the route in anticipation of the terrorists‘ movement.
The army spokesman said the suspects, who were travelling on five motorcycles, engaged the troops in a gun battle after running into the ambush.

He disclosed that eight of the suspected terrorists were neutralised during the exchange of fire, while security operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles and the five motorcycles used by the group.
Adisa said the recovered weapons and motorcycles had been handed over to the Nigeria Police Division in Bakori for further investigation and other necessary actions.
He added that troops stationed at the Forward Operating Bases in Ruwan Godiya and Mabai had intensified patrols and area domination operations along routes suspected to be used by criminal elements in a bid to prevent further attacks and enhance security in the affected communities.
The army assured residents that security personnel remain on high alert and are closely monitoring developments in the area to sustain ongoing operations against terrorist groups and protect lives and property.
