Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA) under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have neutralised two suspected armed bandits during a tactical operation in Taraba State.
The operation, which took place on May 24, 2026, was launched following credible intelligence reports of gunshots heard in a forested area near the “Welcome to Donga” signpost in Akate District of Donga Local Government Area.
This was made known in a statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lt. Umar Muhammad, on Monday night.
According to statement, the troops swiftly mobilised to the area and carried out a coordinated raid aimed at flushing out criminal elements threatening peace and security in the state.
It was gathered that the soldiers reportedly came under confrontation from suspected armed assailants, leading to a gun duel.
During the exchange of fire, two of the suspected bandits were neutralised.
The military disclosed that troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two AK-47 magazines, two mobile phones, and other personal items from the scene of the operation.

Reacting to the development, the Commander of 6 Brigade NA/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for what he described as their professionalism, bravery, and swift response to actionable intelligence.
He urged the personnel to maintain the current operational tempo in line with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to rid Taraba State of criminal activities and ensure lasting peace across the region.
Brigadier General Akaliro also stated that the Army’s reward and sanction policy would apply to the troops involved in the operation, while reaffirming the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal groups operating within the state.
He reassured residents of Taraba State that the military would continue aggressive operations aimed at eliminating all threats to security and restoring public confidence in affected communities.
