Troops conducting operations in Kebbi State have repelled an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Maiyama Local Government Area.
The assault took place in the early hours of Wednesday, October 7, 2026, when the attackers reportedly mobilised in large numbers and arrived at the military position on more than 100 motorcycles.
The terrorists were said to have brought heavy weapons, including General Purpose Machine Guns and Rocket-Propelled Grenades, during the attack on the base.
However, soldiers of Sector 2, Joint Task Force, North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, responded to the assault and forced the attackers to withdraw.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, October 8.
According to Danja, the attackers abandoned several weapons and other operational materials as they fled the area.
Danja said, “The troops responded swiftly and effectively, repelling the attack and preventing the terrorists from achieving their objective.”

After the attackers retreated, troops embarked on pursuit and exploitation operations around the area in an effort to locate the fleeing terrorists.
The operations led to the recovery of 17 motorcycles, a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a communication device.
The military said the recovered items could significantly weaken the group’s ability to sustain operations in the area.
“The recovery of the weapons, ammunition, communication equipment and motorcycles represents a significant setback to the terrorists’ operational capability in the area,” he said.
Danja said security forces had retained control of the affected area, with troops continuing aggressive patrols and clearance operations to prevent the terrorists from regrouping.
He added that dominance operations were also being conducted to track down and neutralise members of the group who escaped following the failed assault.
The military spokesman reaffirmed Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s commitment to protecting communities within its Joint Operations Area and denying terrorists the freedom to operate.
The latest confrontation adds to ongoing military efforts to disrupt armed groups operating across the North-West and prevent them from establishing footholds in vulnerable communities.
