Troops Rescue 47 Kidnap Victims In Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 47 persons, mostly women and children, who were held captive by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Kangarwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The rescue operation was carried out on 20 June 2026 following sustained military pressure and offensive operations against terrorist enclaves in the Lake Chad region.

According to a statement issued on Monday night by the Acting Military Information Officer,
Headquarters Joint Task Force, Capt. Mohammed Goni, the continuous ground and air offensives by troops of Operation HADIN KAI forced the terrorists to abandon their positions in disarray, creating an opportunity for the captives to escape from captivity.

It was gathered that the rescued victims have been moved to a secure location where they are currently receiving medical attention and necessary humanitarian assistance from relevant authorities and partner agencies.

The Theatre Command said the operation reflects the commitment of Operation HADIN KAI troops to not only weaken terrorist networks but also protect civilians and secure the release of innocent people held against their will.

It assured residents of the North East that offensive operations against ISWAP and other terrorist groups would continue until their remaining networks are dismantled and lasting peace and normalcy are restored across the region.
