Troops Rescue 48 Kidnap Victims In Zamfara Community

Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 48 kidnapped victims following a swift military response to a terrorist attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The rescue operation was carried out in the early hours of Sunday, after troops of Sector 2 received a distress call reporting that dozens of heavily armed terrorists riding about 40 motorcycles had invaded the community.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Aliyu Danja, the attackers rounded up scores of residents with the intention of taking them into the bush, while another group remained on the outskirts of the village with the motorcycles.

The statement said troops responded immediately to the distress call and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle upon arrival at the scene.

The army disclosed that during exchanged of gunfire, the terrorists were forced to abandon the abducted victims and flee into the surrounding forest, leading to the successful rescue of all 48 civilians.

Despite the successful operation, one civilian was killed during the attack, while two others sustained gunshot wounds.

The military stated that the injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda, where they are receiving treatment.

Following the rescue, troops launched aggressive patrols across the area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping and to forestall further attacks on surrounding communities.

The Theatre Command commended the gallantry and professionalism displayed by the troops during the operation, describing the rescue as another demonstration of the military’s determination to combat terrorism and protect communities across the North-West.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA also reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the region.
