Troops of the Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) have uncovered 3,250 litres of suspected illegally refined petroleum products during an anti-bunkering operation in Eleme Local Government Area.
The operation, conducted by personnel of the Joint Task Force South-South, took place along Refinery Road within Eleme on April 20, according to security reports.
Details of the development were shared by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, who cited military sources familiar with the operation.
The substances, believed to be products of illegal refining activities, were discovered during routine patrols by troops attached to LCSF MST 1/2.

Sources said the recovered items were handled in accordance with operational guidelines, while efforts to clamp down on illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta have been intensified.
Illegal refining and oil theft have remained persistent challenges in the oil-rich region, contributing to environmental degradation and significant revenue losses.
Security authorities reiterated their commitment to sustaining operations aimed at curbing economic sabotage and safeguarding critical national assets across the Niger Delta.
