A truck driver died after being struck by a fleeing vehicle while attempting to warn other motorists following an accident at Sangotedo inward Eleko on the Lekki–Epe Expressway.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement posted on its verified X account on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
According to the agency, a fully-laden 40-foot containerized truck (T-7740-LA) lost balance and overturned at the location overnight.
LASTMA’s 24-Hour Night Gang promptly secured the scene to prevent secondary accidents and protect other road users.
The truck driver was placing a “C” caution sign when he was hit by a speeding vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle fled without offering assistance, resulting in the truck driver’s immediate death.
LASTMA personnel removed the body from the carriageway and handed it over to officers of the Elemoro Police Station, who responded following an emergency alert.

An investigation is ongoing to identify and prosecute the fleeing motorist.
General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, visited the scene and expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.
He described the incident as a tragic but preventable accident and urged motorists to comply strictly with traffic laws, observe speed limits, and exercise caution, particularly in emergency situations.
LASTMA reiterated its commitment to enforcing road safety regulations and appealed to all road users to remain vigilant, patient, and respectful of human life on the highways.
