The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested two women for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into a correctional facility in the state.
The suspects, identified as Maryam Ali, 19, and Hauwa Musa, 20, both residents of Kano State, were apprehended during routine security screening at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Goron Dutse on December 21, 2025.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Musbahu Lawan, said the women were intercepted while trying to gain access to the custodial centre. A search reportedly revealed substances suspected to be hard drugs concealed in their possession.
Preliminary investigations, according to the NCoS, indicated that the illicit substances were intended for inmates within the facility, an act described by the service as a grave breach of correctional regulations and a criminal offence under Nigerian law.

Lawan noted that the command maintains a zero-tolerance stance on activities capable of compromising the safety, security and reformative objectives of custodial centres. He added that strict screening procedures remain in place to prevent the inflow of prohibited items.
The suspects have since been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution in line with existing laws.
The NCoS reiterated its commitment to strengthening internal security and urged members of the public to desist from acts that undermine the integrity of correctional facilities and the justice system.
