UI Imam Backs Sultan, Warns Against Disobedience

The Chief Imam of the University of Ibadan, Professor Ibrahim Uthman, has said no Muslim in Nigeria has any reason to disregard directives issued by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who also serves as President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.

Uthman, a professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies, shared this on Friday, the 20th of March, 2026, after leading Muslim faithful in the two obligatory Rakat prayers held to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

Muslims around the world observed Eid-el-Fitr on Friday, bringing the Ramadan fast to a close.

Addressing worshippers, Uthman credited the Sultan of Sokoto with fostering unity among Nigerian Muslims. He said the leadership has addressed past differences, especially those linked to the timing and observance of Ramadan between the North and the South.

He said, “There is no justification for any Muslim in Nigeria to go against the directive of the Sultan of Sokoto. We thank God that we have a leader that has brought changes especially on issues concerning Ramadan fast.

“We pray for all our leaders, religious and political leaders. May God continue to guide them to the right path. Amen.

“Allah is great. He has fulfilled His promise on us. Let us continue to appreciate Almighty Allah. Let us continue to preach good things that Almighty Allah has commanded us to do.”
