The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Cross River State (UniCross) branch, has commenced an indefinite strike over unresolved welfare concerns, unpaid entitlements, and alleged non-implementation of agreements.
The decision was announced in a statement by branch chairman, Patrick Ushie, following the breakdown of talks with management.
Ushie said the action would remain total and indefinite until all demands are met.
The union is demanding full implementation of the 2025 ASUU–Federal Government renegotiated agreement, especially its non-financial provisions, improved funding for the university, and better staff welfare.
It also called for the immediate implementation of a new salary structure and prompt payment of salaries not later than the third day of each month.
ASUU-UniCross further demanded payment of salary arrears, including the 35 per cent and 25 per cent wage awards in public universities since January 2023.

The union also alleged non-remittance of check-off dues totaling about N11.9 million, including deductions for December 2024 and November 2025.
It additionally demanded payment of promotion arrears and earned academic allowances from July 2011 to December 2017 under the 2009 agreement.
Ushie said the university cited funding constraints, noting it receives about N300 million monthly subvention and would need an extra N200 million to meet the demands.
He added that a letter had been sent to Governor Bassey Otu without response.
“Until our demands are met, the strike remains total and indefinite,” he said.
Efforts to reach Vice-Chancellor, Francesca Bassey, were unsuccessful.
