Uriel Oputa Condemns Public Scrutiny of Women’s Choices on Motherhood

Former Big Brother Naija housemate and singer Uriel Oputa has taken to Instagram to express her frustration over the growing trend of public criticism surrounding women’s reproductive choices, particularly among female celebrities.

In a passionate statement shared on her Instagram Story, Uriel condemned the societal tendency to dissect and debate women’s personal lives, especially regarding motherhood, childbirth, and fertility methods such as surrogacy or IVF.

“I hate it for every woman who has longed to be a mother,” she wrote. “No matter what you do, it’s never right. Everything will always be questioned.”

The reality TV star emphasized that behind every public figure is a human being with “personal wants, needs, cries, and lonely pains,” urging the public to show empathy rather than judgment.

Addressing the frequent comparisons between women, Uriel asked critics to self-reflect: “Are you Toke Makinwa? Are you Angela? Are you Tiwa? Are you any of these women you’re so quick to criticize? Everybody is different. Even people born from the same womb aren’t the same.”

In the caption accompanying her post, Uriel further rebuked the culture of tearing down women, describing it as “disgusting” and calling for maturity and compassion. “Imagine bringing a woman down because she created life,” she wrote. “Ask yourself why you’re not progressing—it’s your heart.”

The reality star concluded by pledging continued support for other women, particularly fellow media personality Toke Makinwa, whom she mentioned directly. “I will continue to defend Toke or whoever I wish. Life has humbled me,” she added.

Uriel’s post has since sparked conversation online, with many social media users applauding her for speaking out against the double standards women face in matters of motherhood and reproductive health.
